Friends, please hear my concern, my concern about our country. I am troubled that we are becoming less connected to our national government. We the people elect leaders to serve us, to represent us. We empower them to serve us. But is the federal government doing that, serving us in a way that improves our lives? Judging by the low approval ratings of the current president it is apparent that he is not.
After being narrowly elected with under 50% of the popular vote, and after seven months in office, our president has an overall approval rating of 37%, among the lowest in history. People are losing confidence that our president has at heart the best interests of the people when he accepts gifts from foreign counties such as the 400 million luxury jetliner from the Middle East nation of Qatar, when he attacks social programs set up to help people, when attempts to sell our nations parks, and when he puts armed troops on U.S. soil. U.S. citizens reject the fact that he has made ICE into a police force that has unidentified, masked agents capturing people without charges or any legal process. This is un-American, unconstitutional, and completely unacceptable. The current approval ratings of this president reflect this.
With more citizens rejecting him, the president should be scared. And he appears to be.
Already his supporters in Congress are being verbally attacked when they return to town hall meetings in their districts. More and more our president surrounds himself with people and journalists who are friendly to him. You will not see him showing the courage to face an angry town hall meeting. Or to take a tough question from a journalist. He is afraid of people who speak the truth.
It is our country, and we can show more courage than the elected officials who are afraid and silent. We can be of benefit to our elected leaders. A free person is not a fearful person. A free person is not driven to have everything, rather a person who needs less. A free person is not at odds with others, intent on retribution— at war with half the country. In the face of our deeply flawed and corrupt president, we the common people can act and create a better country that represents us all.
